According to Article 2(13) of the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/2195 of 23 November 2017 establishing a guideline on electricity balancing ‘imbalance price area’ is the area for the calculation of an imbalance price.
Also the so-called 'Winter Energy Package' defines an 'imbalance price area' as the area in which an imbalance price is calculated (Article 2(2)(p) of the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the internal market for electricity (recast), 30.11.2016, COM(2016) 861 final 2016/0379 (COD)).
Article 13(2) of the said Proposal for a Regulation envisions the rule that each bidding zone should be equal to an imbalance price area.
