According to Article 2(16) of the Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/2195 of 23 November 2017 establishing a guideline on electricity balancing, ‘position’ is the declared energy volume of a Balance Responsible Party (BRP) used for the calculation of its imbalance.

Position in the balancing market is an energy volume representing the sum of scheduled commercial transactions of a BRP, on organised electricity markets or between BRPs, for the calculation of the imbalance, or, where appropriate, means an energy volume representing scheduled injections, scheduled withdrawals or the sum of scheduled injections and withdrawals of a BRP, for the calculation of the imbalance of that BRP.
